Butterfinger Bars - Nestle Swiss Owned Candy Review

Updated on January 14, 2015

Introduction to Nestle Butterfinger Review

You've probably seen the old Bart Simpson (of the Simpsons :-) ad touting his favorite candy bar, Nestle's Butterfinger bar. Is the Butterfinger bar any good though?

I don't generally buy Butterfingers but once in a while I'll buy a fun size pack and put it out for the kids or folks at work. I'll always swear I'll eat just one but then wind up eating several. Since I eat multiple Butterfinger candy bars in one sitting, I thought I'd do a quick article reviewing this Nestle product.

Who Makes Butterfinger Bars ?

Butterfinger bars are made by Nestle. Nestle is a snack food company based in Switzerland

The Look

Since I generally eat only the fun size bars (more on the size below) I'll base all observations on the fun size bar. Butterfinger bars have smooth chocolate coating all over the outside of the bar. Inside the bar is a solid but very brittle, orange center.

The Size

A fun size Butterfinger bar measures about 2 1/4" long x 1" wide x 1/2" high.

The Taste

There is a very strong peanut butter taste when you bite into a butterfinger. The orange, brittle center is where the peanut buttery punch comes from when you eat one of these bars.

A lot of people compare Butterfingers to 5th Avenue bars, which as of the date of this article, I have not tried a 5th Avenue. Personally, I prefer to compare the Butterfinger bar to the Reese's peanut butter cups. Both Reese's peanut butter cups and Butterfinger both have that soft, melt in your hand chocolate which, I admit, can be a little annoying especially if you don't have something to wipe your hands with. Both have a peanut butter tasting center that is very pronounced.

The "peanut butter" quality and the quality of the Butterfinger's chocolate are nothing to rave about until they are mixed together and then that classic combination really makes up for any faults of this snack food.

There is something to be said about the texture too. Sure, I do complain that the outer chocolate is too soft but the inner, flaky, brittle center adds a little crunch to the bar without being too hard or too crumbly. It is a fairly unique texture that is a nice break from the hard toffee in a Heath bar or the soft nougat of a 3 Musketeers.

To Sum Up

This is a very tasty candy bar. Sure the chocolate is a bit messy and not the greatest quality, but mix it with that orange filling and you have something that you'll want to eat again. I have at least a couple of these snack bars when I put them out for guests.
